Many students, parents and counselors love to speculate and strategize about early decision and early action. At some colleges, the acceptance rate is significantly higher for the early pool than the regular pool leading many students to play their odds and apply early in hopes of increasing their chances of getting in. Other students apply early because they know, without much doubt, that their first choice school is far above their second choice on their preference list. Some people apply early because they just want to be done by the holidays and don’t want to have to think about it anymore.

First, for clarification, some terms and later a discussion of how to know whether you should apply early or not.

Early yesterday afternoon I tracked down Ben Jones, the Communications Director for the MIT Admissions Office. If you want to see a school that has figured out how to effectively blog, check out MIT (mitadmissions.org). Many schools look to MIT as a standard for connecting with students via the Web. MIT has been effective for the same reason I enjoyed talking to Ben- our communication was real and there was a story to tell.

Here's some of our conversation, in no particular order…

As Sid mentioned in the blog a few posts down, Yale recently started testing our service. The Yale Daily News did an article about it. Read it here. I just thought i’d share that with everyone. Peace.

Also, since we’re all here. Here’s a video that some dudes from Hawaii submitted to us…to show the world that they are more than a test score. Are you more than a test score? Prove it.

So we have a couple big announcements we'd like to make during these next couple weeks. I'm only gonna make a few right now. We have a lot of great things going on right now and we're EXCITED about this school year. It's gonna be a special year for Zinch. As we move forward, you'll see what I mean.

Anyway, there are two things I wanted to share right now.

1) "The Word" has been born. Yup, we now have forums. Check them out at Zinch Forums. We are looking for student moderators, so the more you participate in the forums, the more likely you are to be appointed moderator. In the forums, you can talk about EVERYTHING college admissions….and of course, we have sections that you can talk about sports, dating, entertainment, etc. It's fun. Anyone can view the forums….to post something you need to be a member.

2) We have a new facebook profile. Friend us here! We're starting to upload a lot of videos, pics, and "up-close and personal" stuff onto our facebook profile. So if you wanna hear the latest and greatest in news/updates (uncensored), be sure to friend us.

That's about it. Like I said, during the next couple weeks we have plenty of big announcements that we'll be sharing. Stay tuned. It's gonna be a HUGE year for us.

What's Zinch?

With more than 800 schools and over 1.9 billion in scholarships, Zinch has quickly become the standard for helping student succeed.

Zinch is now 2 million plus students and growing fast.
