Does Social Networking Lead to Isolation?
Young people are spending more and more time on social networking sites and it is the belief that the hours spent on these sites is leading users to isolation, or in other words to having no social life.
According to a study done by the Pew Internet and American Life Project, findings show that this is simply not true. The study shows that time online is actually having the opposites effect. The more networking, blogging and emailing that is done can lead to a larger and more diverse social network.
The study shows that those active on the internet and especially within social networks tend to be more open minded to individuals of another race and those who share photos online are more likely to report having discussed important matters with someone of another political party.
There is obviously still a problem of individual isolation in the U.S. but it isn’t due to the fact that people are spending too much time on the internet. Most people are using social networks to get in touch with friends and family whom they see face to face twice as many times as they contact them through a social network.
All in all the myth is busted. Spending some time on your Facebook page does not make you a hermit.

Someone sent me a link to this article b/c the picture looks an awful lot like me when I was a bit younger or ten years younger, not sure. I was wondering where the picture came from. Nothing to be concerned about, just curious. Thanks, Alex
