We are grateful to our Zinch students and know no better way to show it than scholarships. So, we would like to invite you all to join us for a little fun in our Creative Genius Scholarship.
We are looking for the top THREE creative geniuses. For this scholarship we will award three $1,000 winners. The deadline is Monday, Nov 30, midnight MDT. The winner will be announced here the following Friday, Dec 4. This scholarship is open to ANYONE who would like to participate.
This scholarship requires you do two things: post an image or video PLUS a link to your zinch profile on our Zinch Facebook Fan Page.
You can post either an image or video that displays how creative you are. This could be a film you made, a piece of your artwork, some of your photography, etc., or it could be a photograph of something that you made, did, or otherwise. Or you can just make a video telling us why you are a creative genius.
You can pretty much do whatever you want as long as it is in video or picture format and reflects your creative genius.
Of the three winners we choose:
- 1 will be a high school genius
- 1 will be a college/grad school genius
- And the 3rd winner will be whomever has the most “likes” to their post when the judging occurs.
How to participate…
Step 1: Fan Zinch on Facebook (this allows you to post to our wall). To Fan Zinch on Facebook go to facebook.com/zinch & click on the button that says “Become a Fan”:
Step 2: On the Zinch Fan Page you should now see a box like this:
First thing, paste in your Zinch profile link. If you are not registered with Zinch, it is free, fun, and extremely useful. You can register here. If you don’t know your Zinch URL finding it is different for high school and college users.
If you are in high school then, to do this, log onto Zinch. In the left navigation menu, click on “View My Profile”. When that page loads, click on “Personal URL” right above your profile picture. Once that page loads, copy that URL.
If you are in college then, to do this, log onto Zinch. In the left navigation menu, click on “My Profile”. When that page loads, copy that URL.
Once you have your Zinch profile URL, copy and paste it into the open Facebook text prompt. You can also give us any explanation you would like of your video or picture that you feel is necessary. Don’t tell us why you should be the winner, just explain your work.
It should now look like this:
Click on the “x” to close the “link” box below your post. Instead, we are next going to have your upload your photograph or video.
Step 3: Having just clicked on the “x” to close the link box it should now look like this:
Use the upload tool to upload your photo or film. Once your screen looks like this image below, you are at the very last step. Once you click “Share” it will submit the post to our wall. And you are done.
If you have any questions, just ask them in the comments here on this post and we will do a follow-up Q&A post. Good luck, happy Thanksgiving, and may the most creative geniuses win!

can we post more than one picture/post?
@Amber: yes. I will consider only a single post though when evaluating for the winner. So I will compare what I consider your best post against the other posts… so quantity will not be considered when selecting the winner–just the quality of your best post. Make sense?
How do we know that someone will not visit the page and try to steal the picture we posted and use it as their own?
@camille: a lot comes down to honesty…
The Zinch page doesn’t allow for uploading videos/linking to youtube.. is just posting a youtube link on the post enough?
I don’t know why but every time I put my Zinch url it’s not “linked” like its not highlighted blue and you can’t click on it. You would have to copy and paste, is that fine?
Is there a preferred format on the movie? I’m a Windows Media Player gal myself. :)
@Claudia: And a follow-up: is there a time constraint? My thanks!
is there any way that i can post my essay instead of reading it on a video…is the actual essay considered a picture???thats what im guessing
One last question: I’m just testing out the linking option and I too am running into the issue that the link window is not coming up for me, nor is the option to upload a video. May we have some assistance? Many thanks!
@Nick: if you cannot post the video posting a youtube link is great.
@Kisha: that is fine as long as its the right URL.
@Carlissa: this was not intended as an essay scholarship, but if it is creative then anything goes.
@Claudia: flexible on the format.
@Nick: yes that is fine. it’s what i did and what they recommended to do on the notes tab on facebook.
When will the judging occur?
So will the amount of “likes” be counted on Nov 30 by midnight then to determine a winner?
may we tag people in our post like what we did for the Oprah contest?
@Kit Tannenbaum: the judging will occur Dec 1 - 3. We will first judge for the two winners based on quality of posts, then finally we will count who has the most likes.
@Jessica: yeah. tagging people in your post is okay.
Same question as Claudia: is there a time constraint for the video?
And another question: can the video be a slideshow of my photography set to music? in video format, of course.
my zinch.com page won’t let me upload a video
@David Blake:
What if I’m not popular and no one wants to post like???
Is it possible to enter a link, rather than an actual image or video? I have a photography book, that can be completely viewed online, and was wondering if this would be a valid entry. The website itself is a bookmaking website, not necessarily a bookstore, in which all the books are created by individuals.
Thanks.
@alysha: email support@zinch.com and they will help you out.
@Sarah B: only one of the three winners will be based on “likes”. So you always have the chance to win based on the quality of your work–no matter what other people think of it. good luck
@Mari Michael: a link is okay for video if you are having trouble posting it. for artwork please post the actual artwork to Facebook so we don’t have to click thru so many links (judging these scholarships can be a lot of work and this kind of help on your end is much appreciated)
One other question–when I go to the Zinch page wall, only the ‘photo’ icon appears under the box, not a link icon or anything, so when I try to post a video, it doesn’t turn into a link. What can I do?
Is it okay if our name is on the picture?
@Caitlin: that’s okay
I’ve been keeping an eye on my image and the number of likes it has, but for some reason, every time I’ve checked it within the last day or two, it’s frozen on 315 likes, even though I can see that more people have liked it, and I get notifications that new people have liked it. But then I go check on the image, and it will still say 315. Is this a problem? I really don’t want to that to affect my chance at winning if that would happen to be the image with the most likes.
Like many other participants, I had trouble with uploading my video directly through the Zinch page. The only option offered was to upload a photo! Therefore I posted a link to my video on my own Facebook instead. However, this allows only my friends to comment/like the video, so I am not eligible to win through the “like” process. Just wanted to let you know that many of us are stuck in this situation.
Good luck to everyone! And David, I hope you enjoy judging all the creative entries.
are there any award for second most getting like picture :) I mean, one photo got 520 likes and another got 550 likes, this picture will get1000 dolar, but second one will get nothng right ?
@arman: no cash scholarship for the second most liked. we are always doing more scholarships though–so keep in the game.
In the awards section when filling out my profile, it says to list the highest rating in the extra curricular, does this mean if ive won 5 awards in photography to only post one?
@David Blake: Does that mean we should continue to have people like our posts even after november 30? the contest actually ends after the time limit? Thank you!
Are there anyone who got more than 600 likes?
i see that people are posting the same entry over and over again as a “reminder” to vote for them. is this allowed? so many people are posting so quickly that my posting has gotten pushed waaaaay far down and my friends cant even find it.
thanks!
@erin p: if you submitted a picture, you can go to the Zinch photo gallery, find your photo, copy the URL and share that with your friends. That was it is easy to find and like.
Also, we are not adding up likes from multiple submissions. The submission with the single most likes will be the winner.
@Molly: I am also having the same problem..
this isnt working mine doesn’t look like your directions the page layout is different. It doesnt say Zinch.com or Just fans in a blue shade. I ‘m already a fan but It doesnt have any of the attach Icons except for the pictures. What do i do?
are you going to tell us over our facebook again or what?
